Rebuilding the Long Tail

The return is durable: unlike ads, a corrected record keeps paying after the work stops, assuming the basics are already in place. The system rewards agreement, not volume, which is why a hundred sloppy entries lose to twenty clean ones. Broadly, treat the list of services as a single source of truth, not as a field to be improvised per site.

Five Checks Before You Submit

Do

  • Prefer removing a wrong listing to leaving it half-corrected, at least in a competitive market.
  • Photograph or screenshot each profile before editing -- reversions do happen.
  • Keep the description factual; the categories carry the relevance work.
  • Even so, fix the name, address and phone number before touching anything decorative.

Avoid

  • The worst outcome is not a wrong listing yet two right-looking listings that disagree.
  • Left alone, an outdated business name spreads to sources the business never submitted to.
  • The cost of thin descriptions is not a penalty; it is being quietly ranked below someone tidier.
